A Girl and A Gun, Women’s Shooting League

July 25, 2019

The national organization of the A Girl and A Gun, Women’s Shooting League, also known as AG&AG, has come to Beaumont/Lumberton, Texas.
Texas has some 30 chapters of the shooting club, but this is Beaumont/Lumberton’s first.
The Ledger caught up with chapter facilitator Reba Hennigan after a July 13 ‘Meet and Greet’ at the One in One Hundred Gun Club, 1228 FM 421, in Lumberton.
“A Girl and A Gun is a Women Only intended to be a fun social gathering where women can come together for support and encouragement,” she said,
Not that Hennigan has anything against men, but says, “there’s less pressure when we come together in a fellowship of sorts.”
The A Girl and A Gun Club motto is “to empower, educate, and have fun at the range.”
They meet a couple of times a month a various gun clubs and “Everyone is welcome,” she said.
If you missed the last shoot, they will meet again on July 25 in Lumberton at the One and One Hundred pistol range, at 6 pm.
This will be a ‘Girls Nite Out,’ with a quick shoot and then, a dinner date at Catfish Cabin at 7 pm.
“Join us, and meet some wonderful ladies,” she said.
There will be another shoot at the One in One Hundred rifle range with Basic Rifle Practice called ‘Trigger Time’ from 2 to 4 pm on July 28.
Safety is paramount she says, adding they follow all range and NRA safety rules.
If a woman knows how to shoot, the instructors will verify that they know, and then turn loose on the targets.
“We are certified instructors through the NRA, and can show a new shooter how to shoot beginning with how to hold a gun,” Hennigan said.
Bring your gun or borrow loaner from the club, Hennigan says she usually has one or two pistols for others to use.
They charge a nominal fee of $10 to cover the cost of targets and a few prizes for the participants.
“I’ve been a member for going on six years now, and I love it,” she said.
Hennigan has traveled across Texas, New Mexico, and Tennessee competing and making new friends.
“I personally enjoy the “3Gun competition,” which involves pistol, rifle, and shotgun,” she said.
