The Lumberton Independent School District Board Members James Kersh and Brett Yarbro were sworn in at the May 9 regular meeting of the school board. The returning incumbents, Board President Kersh and Member Yarbro were sworn in by Lumberton City Attorney Curtis Soileau. This is Kersh’s third term on the board and still remains school board President. “Im real proud to be part of this board and to see the accomplishments we’ve been able to work together on over the years,” said Kersh.
When asked to highlight some of those accomplishments Kersh added, “The completion of the Performance Arts Center, even though I wasn’t on the board at the time it was passed. The construction of the building started during my first term.” Kersh also said in terms of highlights in the past was the AG building being approved and built which has been so successful that the board will have to look at adding on to it in the future and the renovations of the girls locker rooms, and the new football turfs.
As far as looking ahead to what’s coming up next for the future and focus of the district “Academics will be front and center. We have got to increase our academic facilities and address those immediate needs. Along with increase in pay for our teachers.”
