The newly re-elected Lumberton City Council officials Lynette Barks and Ken Wahl were sworn as City Attorney Curtis Soileau administered the oath of office on Monday, May 13.
No actual election preceded their ‘re-election’ victory as both ran unopposed.
They have served the city for nearly two decades: Barks 18 years and Wahl 21 years.
“I love this community, and I try to serve the best I can,” Barks said.
Barks is a native who says her love of the community makes the job worthwhile. Wahl admits there are some drawbacks to being on the council, but mostly he loves the work.
“There’s no fireworks, I love it,” Wahl said. “I’ve never held the agenda, so I’ve never taken fire.”
He says every once in a while there’s an issue that draws public attention, but it never amounts to broad-scale protest.
More than anything they say they enjoy being part of the process to help build Lumberton.
