Solid start for the softball team
Despite never stepping foot on her home softball field at the Lumberton H.S. campus, coach Lauren Sanders’ team is off to a 6-2 start this season. Her team hasn’t had one practice or game at home since September due to the constant rainfall in the area. Lumberton opened up district play against West Orange-Stark Tuesday night. You can catch their home games at Marauder Park off Keith Road until the field dries.
Girls soccer soars through first district rotation
DOMINATION. It’s the one word that describes what the Lumberton Girls soccer team has done in district play this season. Coach Hopson’s ladies have outscored their opponents 49-1 in the last seven games, which included a 1-0 shutout against Hamshire-Fannett, the team likely to finish second in the standings. This team has been battle tested playing stiff competition in early season showcases and looks to be one of the region’s top contenders for a state tournament berth.
Lumberton boys keep pace with the ladies
The boys soccer team has been unbelievable this season sitting at 7-0 in district play just like the girls. It appears that they’ll finish their first 4A season as undefeated district champions with quality wins against a handful of 5A opponents. The strong tradition will benefit from dropping down a classification when the playoffs start in three weeks. Expect this team to continue playing well into April.
