Lumberton City Manager, Steve Clark, says the plan is to have Piney Woods Sanitation as Lumberton’s new garbage collector. “I’m in negotiations with them right now as far as our contact. Right now, they will be the primary garbage service effective October 1.” He hopes to present the contact to City Council on July 23 at the regular meeting.
According to Clark, Piney Woods submitted the best proposal of the three companies that were involved in the bid process.
Clark emphasizes that it will be up to the individual to make sure they open an account with Piney Woods. The plan, according to Clark, is that Piney Woods will start delivering their cans and learning the routes soon. He also said they will probably be doing pickup five days a week and some people will have different pick up days. “That will all be very clear before October 1,” he said.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” said Clark of the new service.
There will be local contact numbers for Piney Woods. Additionally, Piney Woods will not be utilizing the mechanical arms on the back of the trucks. Clark chose the option to have people on the back of the trucks picking up the garbage. “I think this will be more user-friendly,” he said.
Piney Woods will provide a compactor that will be at City Hall in the yard and set up where people can bring certain items on specified days.
