The Lumberton City Council gathered at City Hall for a regular meeting on Monday July 9 at 7 p.m.
One of the first items on the agenda that was voted on and approved by the Council was the Industrial Development Corporation 2018/2019 Operating Budget.
Next, some IDC directors were re-appointed to the IDC Board. A new member will be appointed at a later date. Those re-appointed to new terms include Shannon McDaniel, Randy Hicks, and Walter Sikes.
IDC director Randy Hicks gave an update regarding the status of the dog park at the City Park on FM 421. He said they just received a majority of the equipment that will be used at the dog park.
The Council discussed and approved the motion to allow a Hotel Occupancy Tax contribution to the Lumberton Chamber of Commerce for the upcoming Village Creek Festival promotional advertisements.
The following several agenda discussion and action items were related to ordinance amendments. The motion to adopt the first reading and pass to the second reading was made and passed for each of the amendments. Those included:
Ordinance 18-1230 amending Section 50-305 and Section 50-339
Ordinance 18-1231 amending Chapter 50
Ordinance 18-1232 amending Section 50-432
Ordinance 18-1233 amending Chapter 42
Ordinance 18-1234 amending Sections 50-119 and 50-120
The Council moved on to pass the motions to approve several zoning commission recommendations related to preliminary plats for Westwood Heights and Copper Point.
In other city news, City Manager, Steve Clark said he is working on a contract with a new sanitation provider, Piney Woods Sanitation. He hopes to be able to present it to the Council for approval at the next meeting.
