Council members voted unanimously to award the design/build qualification portion of the new city hall construction contract to McGinnis Construction, Inc., of Silsbee, Texas.
The action was taken on the matter at the Special Meeting of the Silsbee City Council on May 14.
McGinnis Construction will bring together the “architects, engineers, or any of the firms that come together that we would especially qualify,” stated an unnamed representative at the council.
A single request for qualification bid was received by the council. McGinnis will begin to assemble the design/build team proposal, including subcontractors for the council to review for action. Additional action at the meeting included the swearing in of Council Member Sue Bard, of District A, and Council Member Chris Barnes, of District B.
Both council members ran unopposed. The remaining returning council member is Gary Strahan, At-Large Member, who was not present at the meeting.
The council also voted in the affirmative to close 12th Street from the corner to 655 South 12th Street, on May 27, for a Block Party from 4:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Although the council adjourned for an executive session, members returned after a brief discussion without taking any action.
Executive session was called to “deliberate the appointment, employment, evaluation, reassignment, duty, discipline, or dismissal of a public officer or employee.”
