56-year-old man, Donald Tunnell, was found deceased at a residence near Lumberton when a shooting was reported on Friday, May 11.
The person of interest, a 25-year-old male, is under investigation and has not been arrested as of yet.
Major Dennis Allen with the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division said the HCSO dispatch received a 911 call around 9 p.m. on May 11 in reference to a shooting that occurred on North Fawn Street.
Minutes later, HCSO deputies and Lumberton police officers arrived to that location and upon arrival found Tunnel deceased.
Major Allen stated the deceased as well as the person of interest were said to have been living at that residence. It is reported that the person of interest had been released from jail that same day around noon and apparently went over to the residence and for unknown reasons an altercation occurred between him and the deceased.
According to HCSO, the scene was investigated and witness statements were taken, and the person of interest was interviewed.
Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Chris Ingram responded to the scene and an autopsy was ordered.
Allen says they have spoken with the Hardin County District Attorney regarding the investigation and most likely it will be sent on to a Hardin County Grand Jury to determine if there will be charges filed.
