A suspect was arrested by Lumberton police and two suspects will have warrants for their arrest after an alleged theft at Walmart and then a pursuit that took police to Rose City.
On May 5, around 8:28 p.m., Officer Kenneth Aydelotte received a call to respond to Lumberton Walmart in reference to an alleged theft. He was advised that the suspects left Walmart in a gray SUV.
Aydelotte located the vehicle at US 69 and FM 421. A pursuit then began which led to Rose City when the vehicle hit a guard rail, said police.
The driver was identified as Shonda Shanette Warrior , 44 years old of Lake Charles, Louisiana and it was reported that she did not sustain injuries in the wreck.
The suspect was arrested and charged with Evading Arrest or Detention in a Motor Vehicle (Third Degree Felony), Theft, two counts of Injury to a Child. The Theft charge was enhanced to a State Jail Felony due to two prior theft convictions, according to police.
Police say the two counts of Injury to a Child were in reference to two children who were in the vehicle at the time and received minor injuries.
“It’s crazy that someone would run from the police with children in the vehicle,” said Sullins.
It was reported that the amount of stolen items totaled around $1,875 and included three HP 20 inch personal computers, a DVD player, and one HP Pavilion.
Two male suspects were transported to the hospital and will have felony warrants for their arrests. Chief Sullins says the charges are enhanced due to previous theft convictions for those two suspects.
