Three of Lumberton High School’s student athletes celebrated their hard work and years of dedication by signing college letters of intent on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at the Performing Arts Center.
Standout varsity baseball player Brett Payne signed with the McNeese State University, Lake Charles, La., Cowboys. Joined by his parents Justin and Ramona, his siblings, and his extended family, the Payne crew was all smiles.
Lumberton Baseball Coach Joe Kirby applauded Payne’s work ethic saying: he works as hard or harder as any kid I’ve ever seen.”
McNeese University is NCAA Division I level play in which Kirby said: “I fully expect him to be an All-Conference Player for the Cowboys at some point.”
Also, signing on Wednesday, two exceptional Lumberton Raiders varsity soccer players Corey Bierbaum and Dillon Peaster.
Bierbaum signed a letter of intent with West Texas A & M University, Canton, TX, and Peaster signed with Rogers State University, Claremore, OK.
“These are probably the most dedicated two guys I’ve had in the six years I have been coaching here,” Coach Dylan Fairley said.
He added that while going on to play NCAA Division II College Soccer is “a huge deal” both student-athletes shared their skills with younger players on the Raider Soccer Team.
“They have definitely shown that by mentoring to the guys on their own, these guys really deserve what they’ve got(ten),” Fairley said.
Congratulations to all in their achievements and good luck in their future endeavors.
