The family of the owners of Goings BBQ are responding to the support and love from the community regarding the death of Maria Martinez.
The family says, "The Martinez family wants to thank everyone who has sent us their support. The love and kindness we have received from the community went beyond our expectations. We will keep everybody in our hearts. We love you all and hope to see you all soon. We also want to let everyone know that Gregorio is doing better and will soon be in town. There are no words that can explain how grateful we feel to be part of the amazing community of Lumberton. God bless you all. Lumberton stay strong."
The restaurant will reopen on Thursday, January 18, regular hours 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and Sunday 11 a.m. - 8 p.m.
The Lumberton Ledger reported that while the owners of Goings BBQ in Lumberton, Gregorio and Maria Martinez, were visiting family in Mexico over the holidays, they were involved in a vehicle accident on December 30. Gregorio sustained injuries and was hospitalized and unfortunately, Maria did not survive, according to the family friend who said she was given permission to speak on their behalf.
Family friend, Becky Martin, said that Gregorio has since been released from the hospital and is recovering from his injuries.
