The Texas Department of Public Safety responded to a one vehicle crash that occurred this morning around 10 a.m. The wreck occurred on US 96 at the business US 96 exit in Hardin County.
Initial reports from DPS state that a Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer was traveling southbound on US 96 and and the driver attempted to take the business US 96 exit at an unsafe speed. It is reported that the vehicle traveled off the roadway, up an embankment and struck a tree. The trailer portion of the vehicle dislodged from the truck tractor and spilled the load of insulation products.
After interviewing the driver and conducting an inspection of vehicle, the investigating Trooper found that the front right tire blew out which caused the driver to veer to the right and travel off the road.
The driver has been identified as Gregory Gauthnue of Philadelphia and was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth hospital with unknown injuries.
At the time that TX DPS released their statement, business US 96 was closed to traffic and would remain closed until the trailer was safely unloaded and removed from the crash scene.
