Rebecca McGarity graduated from Kountze High School and will be attending East Texas Baptist University and joining the Air National Guard. Her desire for extra discipline and to feel important and make a difference, led her to join the Air National Guard.
At East Texas Baptist University, Rebecca plans to major in music education.
“It goes by faster than you realize,” she said of high school. Rebecca continues to say, “You should take every opportunity you are given to be with friends and get involved in organizations.” She has three friends attending the same college as she is and plans to keep in touch with all of her friends.
Her only concern is how she is going to do the “adultish stuff” as she says things such as paying bills, cooking, and getting her oil changed. She is excited about meeting new people and living independently as an adult.
Rebecca played the bass clarinet and majored this last year. She also played softball and joined student council and National Honor Society.
Bobby Sise, the KHS Band Director, had a major impact on Rebecca. “He was someone I could always trust who would be there for me. He was very motivational and pushed me to do better than I thought I ever could. He believed in me every step of the way,” she said. Her plan to major in music education is a decision made partly from the impression he made on her. She said he affected everyone’s lives in a positive way and she wants to be able to have the same impact on students.
Rebecca received scholarships from East Texas Baptist University, student leadership, some from other organizations since her father is a pastor and because she is attending a private university, and athletic and band boosters.
As she is looking forward to her new adventure, Rebecca is grateful for all of the support she has received. “Thanks to all my friends, faculty, family, and everyone who has helped me get though high school and helped my life in a positive way.”
