For three weeks, students at Sour Lake Elementary collected money for an important cause; cancer research. The students received a box and were asked to fill it with change and dollars that would go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
The children filled the boxes and raised around $3,400.
The students who were able to raise at least five dollars were able to put their names in a drawing to win a chance to “pie” a teacher or administrator who were good natured enough to volunteer.
Assistant Principal Miracle Daniel said that the classes that raised the most money won a pasta party provided by Olive Garden.
Teacher and student council sponsor, Jody Moss said she was very excited about this fundraiser. She said that at first she was concerned because the money was trickling in slowly, but by the third week, the kids became more competitive and the money started rolling in.
This was a chance not only for the students to raise money for an important cause, but also an opportunity for them to learn about childhood cancer. The student council put together a video that focused on educating the school on childhood cancers.
