The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) released a statement confirming that a 2-year-old child has passed away in the vehicle crash that occurred on Thursday, April 20 on FM 770 in Hardin County near Saratoga.
The two-year-old toddler, who was the passenger in the Mitsubishi involved in the wreck, was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital, and then transported to Texas Children's hospital due to the extent of the injuries. DPS stated that the child was properly secured in a car seat.
The driver of the Mitsubishi has been identified as Cody Norman, 24 years old, of Kountze.
The driver of the Dodge pickup track has been identified as Billy Ray Briscoe Sr., 63 years old, of Village Mills.
An earlier release from DPS stated that after further investigation, evidence showed that a Dodge pickup truck was traveling northbound on FM 770 followed by a Dodge Durango. According to DPS, the driver of the Dodge pickup truck crossed onto oncoming traffic and struck the Mitsubishi vehicle. The driver of the Dodge Durango took evasive action to the right and struck a tree.
