The Texas Department of Public Safety (TX DPS) responded to a three-vehicle wreck on US 69 near Cooks Lake Road in Hardin County on Saturday, April 15 around 7:45 p.m.
According to initial reports, three vehicles were traveling northbound on the inside lane of US 96. A news release from TX DPS stated that the driver of a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta experienced a medical emergency and lost control of the vehicle. The Volkswagen rear-ended a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. That impact caused the Jeep to rear-end a 2014 Dodge pickup truck. After the Jeep was hit by the Volkswagen, the vehicle traveled off the roadway and crossed the northbound feeder road, then continuing into a wooded area. That vehicle struck a tree.
The driver of the Volkswagen was identified as Haley Elizabeth Babinat, 21 years old of Silsbee. Babinat was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital with minor injuries according to the news release.
Elizabeh Adaway, 55 years old of Groves, was identified as the driver of the Dodge. Adaway was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital with minor injuries.
Jessica Burkhead, 34 years old of Port Neches, was identified as the driver of the Jeep and she, along with her three passengers, were transported to St. Elizabeth hospital with minor injuries.
The crash is still under investigation.
