Two vehicle accident on FM 421 proves fatal to Kountze woman

A two-vehicle crash on FM 421 on Wednesday morning, in the Bon Well Loop area of Hardin County, resulted in a fatality, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). The accident occurred roughly five miles west of the,FM 421/US 69 intersection at roughly, 8.20 a.m., cites a press release prepared by Sergeant Stephanie Davis, the DPS spokesperson.

A front-tire blowout may have caused the crash when a westbound 1996 Mercury veered into the eastbound lane colliding head-on with a 2000 Acura passenger vehicle, according to preliminary reports. The driver of the Acura, Mekayla Victoria Howard, 22, of Kountze, was transported by medical helicopter to the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston with serious injuries. At this time, the Texas Department of Public Safety confirms she did not survive her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

19-year-old Kyle Wise, of Lumberton, driver of the Mercury and his teenage passenger were both transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth hospital. Their injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, according to the news release. The crash temporarily closed FM 421, which has since been re-opened. The accident remains under investigation, and there are no further details to be released at this time.
