On Friday, March 17th, the Lumberton Raider Varsity Baseball boys battled the Nederland Bulldogs in an away conference game. With neither team scoring, the beginning half of the game went quickly, with both teams making fast outs within a few minutes of each inning.
The Raiders managed to score two complete runs at the top of the fourth inning. Junior, Brett Payne and sophomore, Bryce Townsend both managed to score for the Raiders. The Raiders also held off the Bulldogs in the bottom of the fourth; keeping them from scoring and causing the game to remain 2-0. Even with all bases loaded, the Nederland Bulldogs were unsuccessful at scoring against the Raider defense. At one point, two Bulldog players both tried to take third base at the same time. Pitcher, Trace McManus, got the ball and slammed into one of the Bulldog players resulting in their third out of the inning.
The Raiders managed to stay on top of the Bulldogs until they tied the game in the fifth inning. By the end, the Raiders were defeated by the Bulldogs by a score of 3-2.
The Lumberton Raider Baseball boys hosted the Port Arthur Memorial Titans Tuesday, March 21st for their next District game.
