A Hardin County Grand Jury indicted former band booster treasurer, Helen Cox, for Theft from a Non-Profit Association. The charge is a second degree felony, and if convicted, Cox can face a possible sentence of 2-20 years in a penitentiary.
Cox was arrested on December 1, 2016 and was originally charged with Misapplication of Fiduciary Property which is a third degree felony. She was accused of stealing approximately $70,000 from the Lumberton High School Mighty Raider Band Booster Club.
District Attorney David Sheffield says that the indictment was enhanced because the theft occurred to a non-profit organization which brought it from a third degree felony to a second degree felony.
