Lumberton Fire Department received a call around midnight on Sunday December 18, reporting a home engulfed with flames. Based on that information, Lumberton Fire Chief Jeff McNeel said they asked for mutual aid and they all responded. The fire departments that assisted Lumberton Fire were Kountze, Silsbee, and Sour Lake. Chief McNeel said a total of 15 firefighters battled the blaze and were able to get it under control.
A spokesperson from the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office stated that Deputy Randy Erwin and a firefighter made the decision to enter the burning house to ensure there was no one inside. They were able to confirm that there were no people inside, however, they did find some pets in an enclosed area and safely removed them.
The cause of the fire in the one and a half-story home is under investigation, according to Chief McNeel. "We really want to recognize the team effort from other local fire departments for helping us battle this fire." Red Cross is contacting the family for short-term assistance.
