Charles Harrison Reed, a bus driver with Kountze ISD was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated on Friday, December 16, according to Kountze police. Reed bonded out Saturday morning. It has been reported that a concerned parent contacted the police regarding the bus driver. Kountze police said that it may not be alcohol-related and intoxication can mean drugs or controlled substances. A blood test was conducted and sent to Austin for analysis.
Kountze ISD Superintendent, John Ferguson released a statement saying, “The district is aware of the situation. We are waiting on the final report from Law Enforcement and the Toxicology reports. Pending the results of all reports the driver is suspended from all driving responsibilities, and will not be driving any KISD students or KISD vehicles, or be allowed on any KISD owned properties. The safety of Kountze students is our NUMBER ONE priority. “
