The charitable organization, Hardin County Angels (HCA), has stayed busy throughout the holiday season. During the year, the organization collects toys and items that will be given to children whose families sign up for their Christmas program. Not only does HCA provide gifts to children, they host a fun-filled Christmas party for the families.
This year, the party took place at Kountze High School on Saturday, December 10. Children waited in front of the high school; anticipating the arrival of Santa Claus. He arrived in splendor on a fire truck with sirens blasting and lights flashing. As the truck pulled up to the school and Santa began to step off the fire engine, children gathered around him, eager to tell him their Christmas wishes.
The young guests followed Santa into the school where they were ushered into the gym to play games or line up to visit with Santa. During this time, guests were treated to lunch in the cafeteria along with a variety of desserts displayed on tables in a decorated tent as well as a candy bar in another decorated tent.
Large black bags filled with gifts were awaiting pickup in the halls of the school. Each family had an assigned number that included items from their wish lists. There was also a hall lined with bicycles waiting for their new owners.
Donna McNeely, Vice President of Hardin County Angels, said, “It went really well. We had a good turnout. All the parents that came through were very grateful and showed their appreciation for us when they picked up their gifs. We have a waiting list for some who did not get on the program. We will take care of them.”
She mentioned that they can always use toys and will keep the remaining ones for next year’s Christmas program. For those not on the waiting list, there will be opportunities to sign up for next year. McNeely stated that they are only taking emergency cases at this point other than those already on the waiting list.
