The Lumberton High School Mighty Raider Band has completed two competitions and will participate in another one this Saturday, October 22. On October 8, the band participated in the Battle at the Bridges Marching Contest at Bridge City High School. The band won four awards in the 5a Division including Best Band, Outstanding Drum Majors, Outstanding Percussion, and tied for Best Overall Band with Little Cypress-Mauriceville.
Tim Pallone, LHS Mighty Raider Band Director, said the band members know when they are walking off the field, how that performance went. This time they received a standing ovation. “We love it when the judges agree with us,” he said. Pallone said that the accolades they are receiving from the competitions help them to work hard.
The Mighty Raider Band competed in the UIL Region 10 Marching Contest on October 15 at Port Neches – Groves High School. The band earned straight 1’s at the competition as well bringing home the Sweepstakes Trophy.
The third competition, Showdown at Sundown, will take place this Saturday, October 22 at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana. There will be 30 bands competing in the largest division. Bands will receive ratings (music, visual, GE, color guard, percussion, drum major, and overall band) and competitive scoring within captions and classes. Trophies are awarded for: general participation plaque; superior rating in each caption (Music, Visual, GE, Perc, Guard); High Music, Visual, GE, Percussion, Guard, Drum Major within classes; High Music, Visual, GE, Percussion, Guard, Drum Major overall; and top 5 overall scoring bands.
Pallone says they also hope to place in this competition.
