Sour Lake will be hosting a ceremony to dedicate their Veterans Memorial on November 10, 9 a.m. at the Memorial (intersection of Highway 26 and Highway 105, in front of J&R Market). Veterans are invited to attend this ceremony honoring their service. The dedication ceremony is being organized by City of Sour Lake officials, Commissioner Ken Pelt (Hardin County Pct. 3), and Kristin White - Hardin County Veterans Service Officer. Kenny Dillard said that he and some other veterans got together in August and did a photo shoot at the memorial. It was during this time together that they discussed the idea to honor veterans and dedicate the memorial.
There are around 30 veterans who have stated that they plan to attend and, according to Dillard, the State of Texas has a record of around 5,000 veterans in Hardin County. The organizers are working diligently to get the word out to as many veterans as possible so they all have an opportunity to attend and be honored.
In addition to Hardin County veterans, State Representatives, Senators, and Congressmen have been invited to attend. Representative James White has accepted the invitation and will be speaking and presenting a Resolution and a flag. W.L. Pate, a veteran and Beaumont City Council Member will be a special speaker. Hardin-Jefferson Band will be performing music during the ceremony. The Honor Guard of Beaumont will do a three gun salute and perform Taps.
